Understanding WordPress Plugins

Plugins are pieces of software that extend the functionality of your WordPress site. They can add contact forms, improve SEO, create backups, and much more. There are thousands of free plugins available in the official directory, plus premium options from third‑party developers.

To install a plugin, go to Plugins → Add New in your dashboard. You can search by name or upload a ZIP file. Always check the plugin’s last update date, active installations, and reviews before activating it. Outdated or poorly coded plugins can cause security issues or conflicts.

For testing purposes, it’s a good idea to use a dedicated staging environment. This lets you try new plugins without affecting your live site.
